Jim at the time was proprietor of a small county garage located at Brodie near Forres and noticed a gap in the boating market in Scotland. It was already popular to hire boats in Norfolk and along the English canals so, starting with a Myra 21, Jim & Elizabeth pioneered boating holidays on Loch Ness & the Caledonian Canal. The new venture was extremely successful and the fleet quickly built up to nearly 50 boats over the first 10 year. Boat Building In 1990 Caley Cruisers began to built boats. Starting with the Highland Commander range they have fully fitted out 14 motor cruisers, ranging from 31ft to 39ft for the hire fleet. All of the vessels built at the yard are completed to the highest standard, the larger vessels are fitted out in teak throughout, have 240 v supplies (microwave, toaster and hairdryer facilities), central heating, CD player, dual steering and bow & stern thrusters. High Profile The company has always enjoyed a high media profile and have appeared on numerous TV programmes including the BBC Holiday Programme. In 1987 the world media followed the fleet as over 20 boats searched the length and breadth of Loch Ness in search of Nessie during Operation Deepscan.
